This movie is flawed. Hugely disappointing considering the amazing cast. The Jewish holiday "Purim" is a big feature of the story. This holiday is too obscure for me to find anything funny in Guest's portrayal of it. The transformation of Catherine O'Hara's character mid-way through the film is depressing and not at all funny because it's so true to life. Just scary and sad. The only redeeming element is the amazing cast, who are rightly beloved for their previous work with Guest (see: Spinal Tap, Waiting For Guffman, Best In Show, A Mighty Wind). There are still a few chuckles to be had, but if Guest puts out another stinker like this, the doubters will multiply.
