This movie is amazing... but it's a tragedy. Don't expect to be uplifted. That said, the screenplay is flawless, the acting is brilliant, and the editing is perfect. Once engaged by these characters, you shouldn't feel the two and a half-hour duration. Jack Nicholson is creepy as ever. He glowers convincingly as a seasoned madman. I was most impressed with Matt Damon's understated performance. I can't say I understand why Mark Wahlberg's character constantly spouts profanities. This gets annoying and doesn't serve much purpose besides satisfying some screenwriter's "naughty" tendencies. Nonetheless, worthy viewing.
