Lars and the Real Girl

Lars and the Real Girl
3 stars
The cast of this film is outstanding, and their nuanced, sympathetic work will brush aside any flaws you may perceive in the storytelling. Ryan Gosling is definitely an actor to watch. You sense he is only beginning to explore his full potential. That said, Lars as "protagonist/our hero" is a risky move by the screenwriter. He is an alienating screen presence and some of his choices make for extremely uncomfortable viewing. "Lars and the Real Girl" tends to be a polarizing film. Often this is a sign of truly great art. In these situations, one must come to their own conclusion.
